My World!!!

I live;

In a world in which ones heart beats only for themselves. Where we look out only for number one and the best friends are always me, myself and I. Where the selfless are trampled underfoot and the selfish live to amass more another day.

In a world in which kindness and friendship are words in a dictionary. Where morals are replaced by the lure of materials and the lifetime of a human being is marked by how much they are worth in monetary terms.

In a society where love is a memory; a distant one at that. Where the glint in a loved ones eye is replaced by lust and the warmth in their hands by a clammy claw. Where the wallet is a prerequisite for the heart and flowery words are assigned a particular day in February.

In a time where the bleakness of winter is replayed on people's faces and where the smiles are simply motions through which we go. Where strangers aren't given a second look and pleading voices are met with an indifferent ear.

I live in a world where the melody is gone from music and hope is dead in children's eyes. Where time seems to stand still yet fly by so fast. Where change leads to uncertainty and stagnation is a death sentence.

It's enough to draw tears when you forget that it is the same world where families sit together at dinner and pray to a higher power. Where loved ones stroll down a muddy path and laugh at the falling rain drops.
The same world where friends count years together and the good guy gets the girl at the end of the day. Where patience and perseverance are rewarded and intelligence is acknowledged. Where the morning is tinged with the promise of a sunny day and children laugh out with innocent glee. Where strangers reach out and forge bonds and finally where we can still dare to believe in dreams.

It's my world. It's your world. Different eyes. Same situations. Different conclusions. I want to see the good with each passing day but the bad somehow makes it brighter.

THE INSIDE JOB

The media world is being turned upside down with the emergence of alternative sources. These have thrown the information age into a tail spin with the availability of viewer generated news that has overtaken the traditional media in usage and appeal. The viewer, reader and listener is thus left not knowing what to take as truth and what are falsehoods being peddled by individuals claiming the spot light. This column serves to give back some credibility to the fourth estate by uncovering the lies behind the headlines. Let’s take a look;

KIBAKI AND LUCY: NO LONGER TOGETHER!!!
The headline screamed out from one of the popular dailies. The revenue from this single piece of news eclipsed many others but left Kenyans wondering about its accuracies. It’s the stuff of tabloids but the electorate yearns for the truth.

The Facts: Our team of investigators went behind the scenes to find out the origins of this story and came up with the following. Upon close forensic examination of the president’s Facebook page, it was found that his relationship status was listed as ‘its complicated.’ This is in comparison to the earlier status that showed him being married to the first lady. Sources within the House on the Hill have confirmed that the First lady changed her status after she noticed many women on the president’s wall who were hitting on him. One of them, it is said, kept poking him and referring to an earlier wedding. Indeed the President’s page has such questions from a Wangui whose profile picture is one of Angelina Jolie. (Hmmm)

The President, who was caught flat footed by these allegations was at pains to explain this and even offered to show journalists his inbox which was spotless. The only messages there were from other heads of states and a curios one from Ocampo (ICC Chief Prosecutor) that had the heading ‘Tick Tock’. He dodged questions about that and another one from the Gichugu MP, Martha Karua, that had the heading ‘ Sawa Tu!!!’.

The First Lady was apparently miffed by the attention and decided to change her status to single and thus their online friends got messages saying they’re no longer together. Sources go on to say that she is willing to revert to the earlier update only if he deletes the offending individuals. In reply, the President’s update was cryptic at best. It read: ‘The Prezzo is thinking about it…………oh yeah and need to check out this whole constitution thing. What’s up with that?’.
